Executive Summary: Dr. Bott's MoniSwitch Pro ADC allows up to four (4) computers with digital video output to share a digital flat panel display.
The very name MoniSwitch Pro offers a sense of functional confidence. Since its inauguration, the MoniSwitch line from Dr. Bott has remained the standard by which other Keyboard-Video-Monitor (KVM) switches are measured.
MoniSwitch was designed to exact specifications, tested extensively across a wide variety of hardware, and is perhaps the only product that has consistently shared the stage with Steve Jobs at every Macworld keynote presentation for the last four years running.
Dr. Bott has improved on the original 2 port MoniSwitch ADC to produce MoniSwitch Pro, the first true 4 port ADC KVM (keyboard video mouse) switch on the market.
Connections: MoniSwitch Pro ADC features the Apple Display Connector.
This single connector provides power, USB and digital video all through a single cable. MoniSwitch does not limit the possible resolutions of a connected monitor in any way.
Cabling: For your convenience, the MoniSwitch Pro ADC comes with four ADC monitor cables to make your set-up easy. We have taken special care to choose the highest quality video cable available.
Do NOT try to unplug and replug ADC devices while your Mac is switched on. You may seriously damage your Mac up to the point that it requires a motherboard replacement.
Using MoniSwitch Pro ADC, however, such "live" switching will not damage your computer in any way and is in fact standard procedure that thousands of MoniSwitch users have come to rely upon since the original MoniSwitch first shipped in late 1995.
Space Saving: MoniSwitch Pro ADC allows you to share one monitor, keyboard and mouse between up to four computers, so you can reduce desk clutter and eliminate the "wrong mouse" issue.
Value: The MoniSwitch products allow you to leverage your monitor investment to get the most value out of your display. When compared with purchasing four seperate displays the MoniSwitch can save you a lot of money indeed!
Configurations: MoniSwitch Pro ADC can be coupled with DVI to ADC Adapters like DVIator to include Macs or PCs with compatible DVI graphics cards.
In addition, MoniSwitch Pro ADC can be used to share digital DVI displays through the use of DVI Extractor II adapters. An extra USB port is provided on the MoniSwitch Pro ADC to connect a USB mouse and keyboard for shared use between the computers or the USB hub on the DVI display.
Typical Uses: People have found many different applications for MoniSwitch. Some of the more common include those who are required to use both a Mac and PC. MoniSwitch is also used in server rooms where each computer may only need to be accessed briefly during the day.
Finally, MoniSwitch makes its appearance in show rooms and trade shows, where multiple setups can be demonstrated at the flick of a switch - Steve Jobs at Apple Computer Inc. has been using MoniSwitch in Mac World Expo keynotes for the past several years.
MoniSwitch reduces the risk of confusion and error that increases when using multiple keyboards, mice and monitors. Obviously, MoniSwitch will save space and will allow redeployment of existing equipment or will save the cost of new equipment in such environments.
Compatibility:
MoniSwitch Pro ADC is compatible with the 15" and 17" Apple Studio Displays and the 20" and 22" Apple ADC Cinema displays and including the 23" Cinema HD Display as well as the Formac 1740 and 2010 Gallery Displays. Virtually every DVI-I or DVI-D display up to 1920x1200 is also compatible when used with a DVI Extractor II.
Compatible computers include all Macintosh computers with ADC ports such as the Power Macintosh G4 with AGP Graphics and all Power Macintosh G5 up to Dual 2 Ghz. Intel based PCs are also compatible when used with a compatible video card and a DVI to ADC adapter such as DVIator, however a minimum of one ADC graphics card must be connected to MoniSwitch Pro ADC.
