Mini Display Port + USB to HDMI Adapter (15353)
Alternative Adapter for transmission of Video und Audio (USB-Stereo only!) via HDMI to an LCD-TV.

Overview
Both adapters merge video and audio signals into a single HDMI signal.

This is particularly useful when connecting Macintosh computers with mini DisplayPort video ports to an LCD-TV or a Home Cinema setup with HDMI input.

Video
• HDMI 1.3b (f) - Video out & Audio out
• Mini DisplayPort 1.1 (m) - Video in
• Compatible with all computers equipped with mini DisplayPort
• Supports Full HD (1080p, 1080i) and HD Ready (720p)

Audio (Pro-Version 15283)
• Apple Mini Jack Optical Audio Input (mini Toslink jack)
• All audio formats supported by HDMI, including:
• 5.1 LPCM Audio (uncompressed)
• 5.1 DTS Digital, Dolby Digital Audio (compressed)
• USB is used for power supply only

Audio (USB-Version 15353)
• USB 2.0 Audio - Stereo only (2.0 uncompressed LPCM)

Well connected!
Our Audio and mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter transmits the Audio and Video signals from your Mac with mini DisplayPort to an LCD-TV or Home Cinema setup with HDMI. The Pro model (15283) picks up the Audio from the optical lineout of the computer and passes the digital signal to the TV set without any loss or modification. The USB model (15353) is limited to Stereo only, similar to a USB sound card.

Of course both adapters pass through HDCP signals, allowing you to view copyprotected Video without difficulty.

Installation & Configuration

No software or drivers need to be installed on a Mac. Audio- and Video ports are recognized automatically and are configured using the familiar control panels in System Preferences.

Video Settings

The resolution in the Mac OS X Displays control panel needs to be set to match the TV resolution. Typically 720p will work ("HD ready" 1280 x 720), while 1080i (1920 x 1080 interlaced, usually not the best option) and 1080p ("Full HD" 1920 x 1080) will typically only work on displays with 1920x1080 pixels native resolution.

1080i is best avoided altogether when the display is used as a monitor for a computer. 1080i usually is OK for viewing Video but the low refresh rate makes it awkward for computer use. Most LCD TVs with 1080i will also offer 720p so that you can compare and choose what suits you best!

Audio Settings

When optical digital Audio is connected (Pro, 15283) the Mac drives the internal speakers and the optical audio from a single port, automatically deactiviating the internal speakers.

The USB product (stereo) appears as a seperate Audio Out port in the control panel. This allows for alert sounds to be played through the internal speakers while video soundtrack plays via HDMI.
