Overview:
Apple Power Macintosh G4, the G4 Cube and Power Macintosh G5 computers come with a video connector called ADC (Apple Display Connector).
ADC is very practical because it supplies the monitor with power as well as video and USB signals all in one cable.
Unfortunately the ADC cable is hard-wired to the display and cannot be replaced with a longer cable. The length provided is not long enough to accomodate all setups - especially if the display is to be placed far away from the computer!
The active extension cable ADC Extension Pro adds another 4.5 m (ca. 15 ft) for a total of roughly 6 m (20 ft.).
ADC Extension Pro offers fully electronic amplification of video and USB signals, including their regeneration. Impeccable image quality and trouble-free operation of USB peripherals is the result.
By daisy-chaining several ADC Extension Pro units one can build custom extensions of up to 18 m without any effort, bringing the total length of the ADC cable to ca. 20 m.
As ADC Extension Pro require s neither power supply nor power cord it is as easy to install as you are accustomed from your Macintosh.
The only precaution consists in pulling the power cord from your Mac (which is switched off beforehand ;) before ADC Extension Pro extensions are connected to the graphics card.
Software, drivers or the likes are not needed - ADC Extension Pro works completely transparently and consequently offers maximum compatibility with all relevant operating systems!
Compatibility:
ADC Extension is compatible with all Power Macintosh G4, G5 and the G4 Cubes that come with an ADC graphics card. If in doubt, the Apple Tech Info Library (TIL) will help you differentiate between the various models.
ADC Extension Pro works with all ADC displays currently on the market that rely on digital video signals. We have specifically tested ADC Extension with the Apple 15" and 17" Studio Displays, the Apple 20", 22" and 23" Cinema Displays as well as the Formac 1740 and 2010 Gallery Displays.
ADC Extension Pro can be daisy-chained up to 4 units. If one can work without USB on the display (a working USB connector is provided on the 4th unit) a 5th and sometimes 6th unit can be added for even greater reach of the video signal.
ADC Extension Pro is compatible with DVIator (a DVI-ADC adapter) and most resellers ship it including an ADC-DVI adapter.
With the help of these optional adapters ADC Extension Pro can also be used to extend the reach of digital DVI signals. ADC Extension Pro works with DVI-based digital flat panel displays up to 18" both with DVI or ADC graphics cards - complete with USB connectivity!
ADC Extension Pro works in any situation where, within the limits of the maximum length, the digital ADC (or DVI) flat panel display works when attached directly to the graphics card.
Limitations:
ADC Extension is not compatible with Apple's now discontinued 17" CRT display.
ADC Extension Pro can only be daisy-chained with itself. ADC Extension (the passive 3 m cable) cannot be used to extend ADC Extension Pro!
ADC Extension Pro will not work with adapters or extensions not specifically described as compatible on this page. The combination may work in individual cases but it is probable that image degradation is experienced and due to this we cannot recommend such combinations.
